Saratoga Springs, NY – Crooked numbers were common in game one of the Clarkson University Softball team's doubleheader, but the team couldn't repeat the feat in game two as the Golden Knights split for the second straight day, winning the opener 9-6 over Skidmore, but falling 6-4 to the Thoroughbreds in the nightcap.

The Golden Knights moved to 19-13 overall and 4-6 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore saw its record go to 15-21 overall and 5-5. Clarkson will close out the regular season next weekend when it hosts Union College on Saturday to finish the Liberty League campaign, and then will play Sunday against SUNY Canton.

Clarkson's offensive barrage that began in the fifth of the first game against Rensselaer on Saturday continued as the Knights tossed up seven runs in the first three innings against Skidmore. Unfortunately, the Knights were met with five runs by the Thoroughbreds in that same time frame. Clarkson scored all of seven of its runs in the first three innings with two outs. In the first, Jamie Bridge started with a two-out single and came home a single from Ali Schwenzfeier, who then raced home on a hit by Liz Caggiano. In the top of the second, Lancette drove home Bridget Woolley with a two-out double and hit the plate herself on a double from Jamie Bridge. Clarkson actually fell behind by a run in the bottom half of the second thanks to back-to-back doubles from Karly Fishkin and Lauren Fortunato, but the Knights regained the lead in the top of the third. Two-out errors allowed two runs to come in and Lancette singled home another unearned run to make it 7-5.

Skidmore picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Clarkson pushed two more across in the top of the seventh as insurance runs. Bridge scored pinch-runner Caitlin Foley on a sacrifice fly and Lancette came home on a misplay by the Skidmore catcher to make the score 9-6. In the bottom half of the seventh, Skidmore put runners on first and second with just one out to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Knights turned a double play to end the game. Maggie Stark earned the save for Clarkson, while Jamie Bridge picked up the win.

Lancette finished the first game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two more driven in and Bridge, Schwenzfeier, Caggiano, and Woolley each added two hits. For Skidmore, Fortunato was 2-for-4 and Jill Strileckis had two hits in four trips to the plate.

For all the offense in the first game, Clarkson's bats were quiet in the first three innings of game two. Meanwhile, Skidmore put up four runs in its first three trips to the plate. Dani DeGregory homered in the first, Karly Fishkin hit a sac fly in the second, and Cassie Fishkin homered in the third before a fourth run would come across in the bottom half of the same frame. Clarkson got the bats going in the top of the fourth inning with a steady offense. Ali Schwenzfeier doubled home Jamie Bridge for the team's first run and both Liz Caggiano and Erika Jensen added RBI-singles to pull the score to 4-3. Skidmore scored a run in the bottom of the fourth with a Cassie Fishkin sac fly, but the Knights responded in the top half of the fifth with a single run on a solo blast by Schwenzfeier. That was all Clarkson could muster as Skidmore added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Cassie Fishkin drove in her third run with a single.

Schwenzfeier was the only Clarkson player to record multiple hits in the second game, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two more driven in. DeGregory was 3-for-4 for Skidmore, while Cassie Fishkin went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Katie Pelton took the loss for the Knights, her first of the season, pitching three innings. Meg Tully closed out the final three frames for Clarkson.
