Unable to hold leads in a pair of playoff games, the Clarkson University Baseball team was knocked out of the Liberty League tournament after a 3-1 loss to Union and then a 12-6 defeat to RPI.

Clarkson finishes the season 20-19. RPI improves to 17-26 and will take on Union who is 25-12.

Clarkson started the opening game off on the right foot. Anthony Padrazo led the game off with a single to center field and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Will Coleman. Greg Jasek then hit a single to center field that scored Padrazo.

However, Clarkson struggled to get anymore offense going. Three Union hits to lead off the fourth inning were capped by a two-run double off the bat of Eric Egan gave the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead. Union added one more run in the sixth when Jamie Faber's single scored Egan.

Neither team could scratch across a run in the final three innings and so the score finished 3-1. Coleman pitched seven innings for Clarkson, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk, with seven strikeouts. Ted Wilson came in and pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two Union batters. Unfortunately for Clarkson, Jake Vesling was outstanding. Vesling pitched a complete game, allowing the one run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Against RPI, Clarkson again took an early lead. After the Engineers scored once in the top of the first, Clarkson put up a four spot in its half of the inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Padrazo ripped a home run down the left field line to tie the game. With one out, Jasek and Miller each hit singles, with Jasek moving to third on Miller's hit. Miller stole second base and on the play, an RPI error allowed Jasek to score. With two outs, Dom Pirro hit Clarkson's second home run of the inning, this one to right field. That made the score 4-1 after one inning.

RPI got two runs back in the third on a two RBI single by Sam Lawrence. Clarkson still had an answer though, as Jasek homered in the third to make the score 5-3. RPI rallied with two more runs in the fifth to tie the game. Clarkson regained the lead in the same inning when Miller's double down the right field line scored Coleman. However, with runners on second and third and just one out, Clarkson could not push any more runs across the plate.

That immediately cost Clarkson as RPI tied the game with one run in the sixth and then took the lead with four runs in the seventh. Clarkson had more chances to get back in the game, with runners on second and third in the seventh and then loading the bases in the eighth, but the Golden Knights could not get the breakthrough hit. RPI tagged on two more runs in ninth on a Matt Lawrence home run to make the final margin 12-6.

Eddie Miller started the game on the mound and threw four innings, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Andrew Smith threw one and two thirds innings and gave up one run and three hits. Ted Wilson took the loss with a final line of one and one third innings, giving up four runs on three hits. Ryan Riley pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

Jasek, Padrazo, and Miller combined for 10 of Clarkson's 12 hits in the game, with Jasek grabbing four and the other two notching a trio of hits. All three had one RBI with Pirro adding the other two.
