Auburndale, FL – Two modest leads by the Clarkson University Baseball team evaporated late in each game of a doubleheader against Brockport as the Golden Knights found themselves on the short end of both contests on Saturday, suffering defeats of 10-7 and 3-1 at the Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex.

The Golden Knights fell to 1-3 overall, and the team will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday when it faces Suffolk University.

Eight runs in the final two innings by Brockport proved to be the difference in the opener. Clarkson started the game with four runs in its first two at bats with a two-out, two-run double from Brad Pearson in the first and a two-out, two-run triple by Chris Miller in the second. Brockport tallied a run in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the third and then gained a 5-4 advantage in the bottom half of the fifth. The Knights tied the game in the top of the sixth on a Connor Martin double that sent Pearson scampering home, but the Golden Eagles were far from done on offense, scoring five in the bottom half of the frame. Down by five with only three outs to play with, Clarkson got back into the game with a two-run single from Vincent Granuzzo and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs and two on, but a harmless groundout ended the threat and gave Brockport a victory in game one.

Chris Miller went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and two RBI while Martin enjoyed a 3-for-4 effort. Will Coleman went 4.2 innings and struck out five as the starting pitcher, but came away with a no decision when the game was tied by Clarkson in the sixth.

In contrast to the opening game slugfest, game two turned into a pitchers' duel. It didn't appear that way at the start as Clarkson quickly picked up a run in the bottom half of the first inning when two of the first three runners reached, with Greg Jasek doubling home Chris Miller to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Neither team would score again until the top of the fourth when Brockport knotted the game up 1-1. Clarkson starter Eddie Miller appeared ready to dispatch the Golden Eagles in the top of the seventh with a strikeout and harmless fly out, but Brockport put together a two-out rally with three straight hits to score two runs and take a 3-1 lead. That tiny burst was enough as the Knights went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Miller was saddled with the loss despite allowing just seven hits in seven innings and striking out nine of the 29 batters he faced. At the plate, Greg Jasek was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Sam McCumiskey picked up his third win of the season for Brockport, whiffing 13 with no walks over seven innings.
