Junior David Kinney (Mexico, NY) became only the second player in the Clarkson University Baseball program's history to be named an ABCA/Rawlings All-American when he gained national third-team honors on Sunday.

Kinney, who has gained numerous honors this season including Liberty League Player of the Year and NYS/Ralwings First-Team All-Region notice, had one of the most memorable individual seasons in school history and helped lead the Golden Knights to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in three seasons. The only other player to be selected an All-American at Clarkson was left-handed pitcher Matt Nolan, who earned second-team honors back in 2000.

The junior third baseman/first baseman/relief pitcher was chosen to the ABCA/Rawlings Third-Team as a third baseman, his primary position throughout 2011. He led the Liberty League in slugging (.669), hits (62), doubles (19), total bases (103), home runs (6), hit by pitch (13), OPS (1.129) and was the only player in the conference to steal more than 10 bases without getting caught (16-for-16). He finished third in batting (.403), second in runs scored (39), second in runs driven in (37), fourth in triples (2), sixth in on-base percentage (.460), and seventh in stolen bases (16). Additionally, he was 2-0 on the mound with three saves, sporting a 1.59 earned run average while allowing opponents to hit just .147 against him. Of the 34 batters he faced, he struck out 14 of them. 

Through his first three seasons, Kinney ranks among Clarkson's all-time leaders in numerous categories. He is second all-time in home runs (16), trailing Clarkson's all-time leader Tim Barcomb by only two, and his .377 batting average and .626 slugging percentage currently top the leaderboards for the Knights.
