Senior captain Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL) connected for the game-winner and added an assist for her 100th career point to highlight the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team's 5-1 victory over Union in Schenectady, NY on Friday night.
The #3-ranked Golden Knights, who have won five straight, close out the 2017 portion of the schedule with a 3:00 p.m. game at Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon in Troy. Clarkson stands at 16-3-1 overall and holds down first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with 7-2 league mark.
Clarkson had a tough go of it breaking through against Union (4-11-2, 3-4) early, but blew the game open in the third period with four goals to post its 12th straight win over the Dutchwomen.
The Knights opened with the game's first goal as senior Amanda Titus (Stittsville, ONT) tallied her sixth goal of the season at 12:19 of the first. Freshman defenseman Meaghan Hector (Georgetown, ONT) assisted.
Union came right back to tie it with a goal by Katelyn Russ at 14:50.
After a scoreless second period, the Knights had their most productive period of the season with four goals over the final 20 minutes. Harmon netted her fourth of the year, converting on the power play from junior Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT) and sophomore Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice, Czech Rep.) for the deciding goal at 3:23.
Junior Rhyen McGill (Whitby, ONT) followed at 9:21 with her eighth of the season. Classmate Cassidy Vinkle (Belleville, ONT) set up the score.
Gabel, Clarkson's leading scorer, closed out the game with two more goals, giving her 15 on the season and 55 for her career. She tallied at 10:38 with freshman Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) and junior defenseman Josiane Pozzebon (Bourget, ONT) assisting.
Gabel scored again with 1:24 left with Harmon getting the assist, which put her in Clarkson's century club.
Harmon, who has 26 goals and 74 assists through 139 career games, joins Erin Ambrose '14 as the only Clarkson defensemen to reach 100 points.
Senior Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) made 18 saves for her 95th career win in the Knights' net.
Clarkson outshot Union 62-19 and went 1-of-3 on the power play, while killing off all three of the Dutchwomen's man-advantage chances.
