The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team’s bid to knock off ninth-ranked Dartmouth College in Game 3 of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series in Hanover, NH on Sunday afternoon came to an agonizing end when the Big Green pulled out a 4-3 overtime victory, ending the Golden Knights’ season.

Camille Dumais scored off a rebound while on the power play with 1:33 remaining in overtime, lifting Dartmouth (21-10) to the win and advancement in the league playoffs. Trailing 3-2 late in regulation, and on the penalty kill, the Big Green forced the extra session when Reagan Fischer scored during a scramble in front, for an extra-attacker, shorthanded goal with 54.4 seconds remaining in the third period.

Clarkson, which was seeded sixth in the playoffs, closes out the 2010-11 campaign with a 14-17-6 overall record.

The Knights were able to overcome a rash of penalties in the first period, killing off three consecutive Dartmouth power plays to keep the game scoreless after the opening 20 minutes.

After the scoreless first period the teams combined for five goals in the second stanza with the Knights holding a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. The Big Green scored first just 73 seconds into the period on a goal by Jenna Hobeika. Clarkson answered back at 3:48 when freshman Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) stole the puck in the Dartmouth zone and fired off a quick shot from the slot for her eighth goal of the season.?Dartmouth went back on top when Dumais capitalized on a Clarkson turnover and scored the home team’s second goal at 10:10. Clarkson, however, scored twice in less than three minutes to take its first lead of the contest.

Junior Brittany Mulligan (London, ONT) tipped in a shot from the point by junior defenseman Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT) at 13:05 for her fourth goal of the year. At 16:42, freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) took a pass from junior Gabrielle Kosziwka (Limehouse, ONT) and scored on the breakaway for her seventh goal of the year to give the Knights the one goal lead.?That lead held until the final seconds when Dartmouth pulled its goaltender and scored the tying goal while shorthanded.

Dartmouth outshot Clarkson 42-32, including a 19-1 margin in overtime. Freshman Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) made 38 saves. The Knights were 0-of-3 on the power play, while Dartmouth was 1-of-7 with the man-advantage, with the lone power-play goal of the game proving to be the sudden death game-winner
