The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team remained unbeaten in ECAC Hockey play after skating to a 1-1 tie against Brown University in Providence, RI on Friday night. The Golden Knights, who stand at 5-7-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference, will face off on Saturday afternoon at Yale University in New Haven, CT, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Although Clarkson came away with a point in league play, the tie was bittersweet as the Green and Gold held the lead until the final seconds of regulation.
After battling through all most 55 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Knights grabbed the 1-0 lead at 14:09 of the third on senior Melissa Waldie’s (Newmarket, ONT) fifth goal of the season and 57th career score.
Brown (2-3-2, 1-2-2) was able to salvage the tie with just 22 seconds remaining in the period as Laurie Jolin scored as the Bears had their goaltender out in favor of the extra attacker.
Clarkson out shot Brown 37-22. Both teams had three shots apiece in the five-minute overtime session. Freshman Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 21 saves in the Knights’ goal.
Clarkson was 0-of-2 on the power play and killed off all three Brown man-advantage chances.
