Clarkson women booters win again to go to 4-0

With freshman Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) continuing her solid play in goal, another clutch score by senior Hilary Mosher (Hilton, NY) and a goal and an assist from junior Sarah Andres (Honeoye, NY), the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team ran its record to 4-0 on the season after shutting out Elmira College 2-0 at Clarkson’s grass field on Saturday afternoon.

Off to their best start since 2001, the Golden Knights, under new head coach Sarah Raymond, will look to improve upon their perfect record when they host Hilbert College on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Elmira, now 2-2 on the season following the loss, controlled the play in the first half, out shooting Clarkson 7-4 while holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Thibeau, however, turned aside all three shots she faced in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless at the half.

The Green and Gold picked up their play in the second half and held a 9-3 advantage in shots. Mosher, who tallied the only goal in last Saturday’s 1-0 victory at St. John Fisher, came through with the game-winner against the Soaring Eagles. Mosher took a pass from Andres just inside the box and lofted in a shot into the far corner for the only goal the Knights would need at 52:53.

With less than eight minutes to play, Andres sealed the win, connecting on a penalty kick at 82:04.

Clarkson outshot Elmira 13-10, while the Soaring Eagles held a distinct advantage in corner kicks, 8-1.

Thibeau, who has not allowed a goal in a Clarkson victory this season, made six saves. Karissa Wilson posted four saves for Elmira.
