Junior Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) was the top finisher in the Women's 15K Skate and helped the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team race to two victories and two second-place finishes at the Cornell Invitational in Craftsbury, VT.
Forshey finished the 15K Skate in a time of 49:55 which was more than a minute faster than the second-place finisher. Senior Olivia Dawson (Scottsville, NY) came in sixth with a time of 55:03 and sophomore Katie Dunn (Penfield, NY) was just behind her in seventh place, finishing in 57:26. Clarkson would finish two points ahead of Cornell to claim victory in the event.
Junior Ben King (Jericho, VT) was the top racer for the Clarkson men in the 15K Skate. He finished in fourth place with a time of 45:50. Junior Eric Mallery (Webster, NY) had a time of 46:11, good for sixth place while his brother, freshman Peter Mallery (Webster, NY) came in ninth (47:21). Freshman Brian Chrzan(Clifton Park, NY) finished seven seconds behind Peter to round out the top 10.
The women were able to claim victory in the 8.5K Classic with Forshey, Dawson, and Dunn all finishing in the top six. Forshey had a time of 38:19 while Dawson was just behind at 39:02 and Dunn getting a time of 40:53.
Just as in the 15K Skate, the men would come in second-place behind Cornell in the 8.5K Classic. Chrzan was the top finisher for the Golden Knights, coming in fifth place with a time of 30:49. In the two places behind him were King and Eric Mallery who had times of 31:06 and 31:42 respectively. Rounding out the top ten was senior Paul Ferrer (San Antonio, TX) at 32:57 and junior Austin Smith (Webster, NY) who was just a second behind.
Next weekend, the team will host the Clarkson University Invitational the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Center in Lake Placid.
