POTSDAM -- The Clarkson University Athletic Department has named Ashlynn Nuckols as the top assistant coach for the Golden Knights’ Volleyball program for the 2011 season.

Nuckols, a 2009 graduate of Davis and Elkins College (WV), replaces Alesia Vaccari who spent the last two years as the Clarkson Volleyball assistant.

Nuckols, a native of Upperville, Virginia, earned her master’s degree in health and human performance in 2010 from Austin Peay State University, and gained a bachelor’s degree in both physical education and sports management in 2009.

Most recently, Nuckols was the head coach of the Clash Volleyball Club in Manassas, Virginia, and was an assistant coach at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. During her undergraduate playing days, she was a three-time conference all-star for Division II Davis and Elkins College, leading the Senators with 337 kills and 80 blocks as a senior in 2009.

“We were lucky to find someone of Ashlynn’s character and drive in our search for a new assistant coach,” Clarkson head coach Johan Dulfer remarked.

“Ashlynn has experienced success at different levels, from club to Division I, and I look forward to having her share her experiences with our team. She’s as dedicated to the success of our team on the court as she is to success in the classroom and in life, in general, and I think that fits well with how we at Clarkson think about our student-athletes. I look forward to having Ashlynn join our team as we aim to take the next step in the development of our program.”

The Clarkson volleyball program is on an unprecedented run of success. The team has posted four straight 20-win seasons including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, the first in the program’s history.

The Golden Knights claimed their first-ever Liberty League title in 2009 and have gone 56-17 (.767 winning percentage) over the last two years. Rising senior Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY) has been named an AVCA All-American each of the last two seasons. Clarkson’s 2011 season begins on September 2nd with preseason beginning in mid-August
