Behind a strong three-goal, third-period effort, Clarkson University earned its sixth straight win by defeating ECAC Hockey rival Rensselaer 5-2 before 3,000 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday night to complete a sweep of NY Capital District foes in Potsdam.

Ranked 16th in the national polls entering the weekend, the Golden Knights, who skated past No. 15 Union 5-1 on Friday, improve to 14-6 overall and moved into fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 5-3 league mark.

Junior defenseman Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) paced the Clarkson attack with his first career two-goal game. Junior Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) continued his solid play in the crease and posted 23 saves for his 52nd career victory.

Trailing 2-1 early in the second period, Moro started a four-goal rally by the Green and Gold with a pair of power-play tallies. At 15:27 of the middle frame, Moro connected on a shot from the top of the left circle for a 4-on-3 score to tie the game 2-2. Junior co-captain Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) and senior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) assisted.

Moro scored again on the man-advantage to start the third with a shot through traffic, finishing off assists from junior Haralds Egle (Liepaia, Latvia) and Thow at 6:08 for his fifth goal of the season giving Clarkson a 3-2 lead.

Just 63 seconds later, junior co-captain Devin Brosseau scored his second goal of the weekend and sixth of the season, with freshman Jamie Collins (Fergus, ONT) and sophomore defenseman Connor McCarthy (LaSalle, QUE) setting up the Knights' fourth goal of the night.

With 70 seconds remaining, freshman Josh Dunne (O'Fallon, MO) banged in a behind-the-net pass from Egle for an empty-net goal to seal the victory with his sixth goal of his rookie campaign. Classmate Anthony Callin (Middleton, WI) also assisted.

For the 17th time in the first 20 games, Clarkson got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) tallied at 10:10 of the opening period putting in his fourth goal of the season off a behind-the-net pass from Brosseau. Dunne also assisted.

Shut out by the Knights in their previous four meetings, RPI finally got a goal past a Clarkson netminder when Todd Burgess snapped in a wrist shot with one minute left in the period for the Engineers' first goal against the Knights in 279:07.

The Engineers struck again at 4:57 of the second on Jacob Hayhurst's goal for a 2-1 lead.

Clarkson outshot RPI 34-25.

The Knights were strong in specialty teams play going 2-of-3 on the power play and killing off both of RPI's man-advantage opportunities. The Knights have allowed just one power-play goal in the last 41 attempts by the opponents over the last 12 games, and have killed off 23 straight.

Clarkson begins a four-game road trip next weekend, playing at Yale and Brown.
