The first NCAA Women's Hockey game played overseas ended in a tie as two of the top teams in the USA, No. 5 Clarkson University and No. 3 Northeastern skated to a 3-3 draw before 2,534 fans at SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Golden Knights (14-4-1) and Huskies (13-2-3) will play game 2 of the Friendship Series matchup on Sunday morning, 7:00 am (ET).

NCAA's top two leading scorers combined to put college women's hockey's first overseas goal on the scoreboard to give Clarkson the early lead.

At 4:52 of the opening period senior left wing Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT) scored in front off an assist from sophomore right wing Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) for her 15th goal of the season and 91st career tally.

The Green and Gold made it 2-0 at 12:57 of the middle frame when Giguere snapped off a quick shot from the bottom of the right circle during a 4-on4- situation for her 14th goal of the season and 41st career score. Blueline partners, junior Emma Keenan (Calgary, ALB) and senior Josiane Pozzebon (Bourget, ONT) assisted.

Northeastern grabbed the lead late in the period with a three-goal outburst in a 35-second span to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Skylar Fontaine started things off for the Huskies at 18:31, followed by Kasidy Anderson's goal at 18:48. Mia Brown put Northeastern in front at 19:06.

Clarkson rallied back early in the third period and tied it up at 3:50 with a tip-in score by senior Kelly Mariani. Junior defensemen Ella Shelton (Ingersoll, ONT) and Taylor Turnquist (Blaine, MN) assisted.

Northeastern held a slight 34-31 edge in shots. Clarkson held the shot advantage in the five-minute overtime, 4-1.

Grad student Kassidy Sauve (Whitby, ONT) made 31 saves, including 15 first-period stops. Aerin Frankel posted 28 saves for the Huskies.

Clarkson was 0-of-2 on the power play, while Northeastern went 0-1.
