Caitlin Cataldo turned in a 14-save performance for Connecticut College on Friday, leading the Camels to a 13-8 victory over the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team in West Palm Beach, FL. The Saints, who outshot their opponents 35-27, were led by junior Kendall Harty's three-goal showing.
The loss moves St. Lawrence to 1-3 on the season after a 1-2 trip to Florida, while Connecticut College improves to 2-2 overall.
Cataldo's play in net allowed the Camels to build a 5-3 lead at halftime despite being outshot 18-13. She made six saves in the opening 30:00 minutes, while St. Lawrence netminder Anna Marchand made three stops. Though St. Lawrence led 3-2 after goals by Harty, junior Margie Bailey and senior Kaitlyn Fahsel, Connecticut College answered with three goals to close the half to take the two-goal lead into intermission.
The Camels continued their momentum into the second half, scoring four of the first five goals to open up a 9-4 advantage. Though the Saints would get back to within three at 10-7 after goals by Harty, sophomore Hanne Bailey and junior Paige Powell, three straight goals by the Camels would put the game away despite Harty's final goal to close the scoring at 13-8.
Marchand finished with seven saves in the game, which proved to be an even contest in both ground balls (23-23) and draw controls (14-13 Conn. College). Fahsel, senior Kim Cooper and junior Alanna Piroli added assists for St. Lawrence in Friday's game.
The Saints will look to get back on track against Potsdam State on Tuesday, March 22. The game, which will be played on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium, is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
