Junior Conor Caffrey scored three goals, while sophomore Mike Donnelly added two goals and an assist, each for three points to lead the No. 10 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to an 8-5 win over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.

With the win, the Saints improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Knights fell to 1-1.

First-year midfielder Brett Williams tallied his first collegiate goal and assist for the Scarlet and Brown, while Jordan Dow and David Jennings each notched one goal. Caffrey and Zachary Ettinghausen each picked up four ground balls, while Evan Doodian caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

After a scoreless six minutes to open the game, Caffrey struck first for the Saints with a quick shot off a pass from Nick Brindisi nearing the four minute mark of the first frame. Williams recorded his first collegiate goal less than a minute later.

James Pratt closed the gap to one tallying SUNY Geneseo's first goal of the game at 11:45 of the second quarter.

It wasn't long before Donnelly added an insurance goal for the Saints, unassisted for his second of the season. The Knights wouldn't stay far behind as Connor Griffen ripped a man-up goal past Saints' goalkeeper Alex Terry with 7:50 remaining in the half.

Williams fed Dow a pass from the key and Dow responded with a rip from just outside the crease, putting the Saints up 5-2 with 2:26 to play until the break.

Both teams recorded two goals in the third and one in the fourth, but the Saints strong second quarter would give them the edge over the Knights. Caffrey tallied his sixth of the season and Donnelly added his third for the Saints in the third frame, while Zachary DeBottis and Dillion Rogers each scored for SUNY Geneseo.

As the shot clock ran down, Caffrey picked up a quick ground ball and notched a top-shelf goal for the Saints final goal of the game. Andrew Cummings added one more mark for SUNY Geneseo with 34 seconds to play.

Five different members of the Geneseo squad recorded a goal, while Mark Friske picked up a team-high five ground balls and goalkeeper Michael Yehl grabbed three ground balls and caused one turnover. Alex Leuze and Tim Fallo each recorded assists in today's contest.

Terry recorded nine saves between the pipes for his second win of the season, while Yehl, who also played a full 60 minutes in net made 12 saves.

St. Lawrence will travel to Middlebury, Vermont on Tuesday, March 13th for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Panthers.
