POTSDAM, N.Y.—Buffalo State (6-6-2, 3-3 SUNYAC) made a second half goal stand up for a 1-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (5-8-1, 0-6) on Friday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field.

The Bengals had the best chances of the opening half. Just five minutes into the contest, Buffalo State freshman midfielder Breanna Knight (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) rang the cross bar of Potsdam's goal. Nearly 13 minutes later, Bears junior goalkeeper Emily Lapage (Brushton, N.Y./Bruston-Moira) stopped another Knight attempt and then handled the rebound off of a shot from Bengals senior forward Megan Chapple (Utica, N.Y./Whitesboro). Most of the play was in the midfield for the remainder of the period and the contest was scoreless at the break.

Buffalo State slowly built momentum in the final 45 minutes. At the 68:07 mark, Bengals junior defender Gabrianna Boldinski (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) headed home a corner kick off the foot of Knight to make it 1-0. Buffalo State followed up with several other chances in the next few minutes but Lapage kept the deficit to just one. The play got more physical as the clock ticked down, but neither side gained any new advantage as Buffalo State held on for the 1-0 victory.

Lapage finished with seven saves for Potsdam, while Bengals freshman goalie Nicole Torres earned the shutout with one.

The Bears look to bounce back tomorrow morning when they host Fredonia State at 11 a.m. on Senior Day.
