Despite battling back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, the St. Lawrence University volleyball team suffered a tough 3-2 loss against Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday afternoon. The scores were 25-13, 25-14, 22-25, 21-25, 15-11.
The Saints, who fall to 10-8 (2-2 Liberty League) on the season, were led by senior co-captains Nyasha Miller and Marta Johann. The Brewers, who improve to 8-4 (1-0 Liberty League), were led by Jessie Ditmore's game-high 18 kills.
"This weekend was our best of the season," said St. Lawrence Head Coach Shelly Roiger. "We showed more heart, fire and energy than we have all season. We need to improve on bringing this to the court from the start of the match, as well as minimizing our unforced errors."
Miller recorded 12 kills and 19 digs, while Johann tallied 11 kills and three assisted blocks. Senior Katherine Pierce led St. Lawrence on defense with 25 digs, while sophomore Anna Kassab dished out 33 assists.
The Saints travel to Potsdam, NY on Sept. 30 to take on Liberty League opponents Union (4:00 pm) and Bard (8:00 pm).
