ITHACA -- Fredonia State (16-9) defeated the SUNY Potsdam volleyball team 3-0 on the first day of the Ithaca Tri-Match.
After some early errors in the first set, the Bears battled back before falling 29-27.
The Blue Devils never lost their momentum from that point on winning the final two sets by 25-12 and 25-15 scores. S
enior outside hitter Samantha Strader (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson) recorded a team-high10 kills.
Junior libero Jillian Dye (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) finished with nine digs and sophomore setter Jenna Blujus (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) totaled 22 assists and two aces.
“We just didn’t perform well tonight,” said Potsdam Head Coach Steve Pike.
“We made 16 unforced errors in the first set and too many more after and that’s tough to overcome. We didn’t execute well enough to win.”
The Bears (17-10) will look to bounce back with two matches today. Potsdam faces host Ithaca at 10 a.m. and Kean at 2 p.m.
