Bears women's lax hammers Wildcats to close out Florida trip

BRADENTON, FLA.—The SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-1) cruised to a 19-4 victory over Wheelock College (1-1) in their final game at the Spring Fling Tournament in Florida. Senior midfielder Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) had another big day with three goals and five assists for eight points and junior midfielder Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) had a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. Junior attack Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) added two goals and two assists and three other Bears contributed two goals each.

Potsdam was in control from the outset, piling up a 14-1 advantage by the half. Cole recorded four goals an assist in the opening half barrage and McClusky had a goal and three assists. Junior attack Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) and senior defender Lizzie Marchbanks (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each scored twice and sophomore attack Rachael Huntley had a goal and two assists in the first half.

Wheelock scored the first two goals of the final 30 minutes, but Potsdam closed the game with a 5-1 run. Junior attack Nicole Damon (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) opened the scoring for the Bears in the second half. McCabe, McClusky, freshman attack Meaghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) and Newman closed out the victory with consecutive tallies.

In goal, junior Devan Olschewske earned her 10th career win with 40 minutes between the pipes. Freshman Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) made her collegiate debut in the final 20 minutes. Neither goalie recorded a save. Meghan Lewis made seven stops for the Wildcats.

The Bears outshot Wheelock 28-4 and finished with a 17-7 advantage in draw controls.

Next, Potsdam returns North to resume its Route 11 Rivalry at SUNY Canton on March 16 at 4 p.m.
