FREDONIA, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (12-5, 7-3 SUNYAC) pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 57-29 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-15, 0-10) on Friday night. Junior guard Abbey LaPage (North Bangor, N.Y./Franklin Academy) led the Bears with nine points, while freshman forward Victoria Shopovick (White Plains, N.Y./Maria Regina) had six points and freshman guard Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.) added five.

Both teams got off to a slow start as the score was just 3-0 until nearly midway through the opening quarter. Trailing 5-0 at the 4:53 mark, Shopovick sank consecutive layups to close the gap to one. However, the Blue Devils finished the quarter on an 8-0 run and led 13-4 after 10 minutes.

Fredonia edged Potsdam 12-10 in the second quarter as the teams traded bucket for bucket. Clark hit a 3-pointer at 7:41 to get the Bears within 16-9, but the Blue Devils slowly built their lead back to 25-14 at the half. Clark had five points in the quarter, while Shopovick contributed another layup and LaPage sank a three.

Potsdam struggled to crack Fredonia's defense in the third quarter as they were outscored 12-4 and the Blue Devils increased their advantage to 37-18. Senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) and freshman guard Breanne Sapp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) each hit shots for the Bears.

The final quarter was the highest scoring for both teams. Fredonia scored 20 points in the last 10 minutes, while Potsdam added 11. LaPage hit two more threes, while freshman guard Janay Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) chipped in three points and junior guard Sidney Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Massena) closed the scoring with a layup for her first collegiate points.

Blue Devil Jenna Einink had a game-high 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, while Sabrina Macaulay also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Buffalo State for a 2 p.m. contest with the Bengals.
