Bears volleyball falls to Oswego in SUNYAC pool play

CORTLAND, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-15, 0-4 SUNYAC) fell 3-0 to Oswego State (13-10, 3-1) on the first day of SUNYAC Pool Play at SUNY Cortland on Friday evening. Graduate student outside hitter Annie Smith (Chateauguay, N.Y./Chateauguay) led the Bears with 11 kills.

The Lakers held off the Bears 25-20 in the first set before taking the second and third sets by 25-18 and 25-13 scores. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Sunday (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) had another strong match with nine kills and 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) finished with four kills, while senior outside hitter Liza Fields (Duanesburg, N.Y./Duanesburg) had two kills, three aces and 10 digs. Freshman setter Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) contributed 16 assists and senior libero Gabby Arana (Williston Park, N.Y./Herricks) closed the night with a team-high 12 digs.

Potsdam is back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. when the Bears face SUNY Geneseo. They then close the weekend at 3 p.m. when they square off with Fredonia State.
