Bear's Taylor defends 100 breaststroke title

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Senior Alexander Taylor successfully defended his SUNYAC Title in the 100 breaststroke with a Potsdam record time of 0:57.61. Five other Bears' records fell as well on the second day of competition at the SUNYAC Championships hosted by Erie Community College.

Potsdam's women's 200 medley relay team of senior Paige Montroy,, junior Ghena Binzer, senior Kylie Barr and sophomore Victoria Blakeslee shaved two seconds off the Bears previous record with a time of 1:53.45 to qualify for final. Senior Liz Ringer topped her own Bears' record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.04. She then broke the record again in the B final with a time 0:59.28. Binzer set her own Potsdam record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.16 for a B final spot. Blakeslee reached the B final in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:49.52.

In the men's 400 individual medley, senior Richie Zimmerman broke teammate Taylor's school record by five seconds with a time of 4:12.05. Zimmerman then finished third in the final with another record mark of 4:10.11. Sophomore Dan Costa, freshman Chris Carlini, freshman Delvyne Santiago and senior Marcus Domfort qualified for the men's 200 medley relay final with a 1:43.14 finish. Domfort also qualified for the B final in the men's 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:25.06, while Costa reached the B final in the 100 backstroke with a time of 0:54.99. Zapisek qualified for the 100 butterfly final with a seventh place preliminary finish in 0.52.11. He then set a school record with 0:51.65 time for a fourth place finish in the final.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the final day of competition in Buffalo.
