ITHACA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women’s volleyball team (18-11) was defeated 3-1 by host Ithaca College, but rebounded for a 3-2 win over Kean University on the second day of the Ithaca Tri-Match. Junior libero Jillian Dye was named to the All-Tournament team.

In the morning match with the Bombers (15-9), the Bears captured the first set 25-22 before falling in the last three by scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-12. Sophomore setter Jenna Blujus finished with 20 assists, 19 digs, seven kills, and two aces. Dye contributed 16 digs and sophomore outside hitter Dakota Pruiss had seven kills.

Against the Cougars (10-19), Potsdam again captured the opening set 25-15. Kean took the next two 25-19 and 25-23, before the Bears responded with 25-17 and 15-8 wins for the match victory. Senior outside hitter Samantha Strader posted a season-high 16 kills to go along with 12 digs. Pruiss added 14 kills and 17 digs and Blujus totaled 44 assists, 13 digs, and three aces.

Despite the rough start to the weekend, Potsdam Head Coach Steve Pike was happy with its conclusion.

“We’re still trying to find ourselves, but we really battled against Kean,” said Pike. “This afternoon we had the most balanced attack we’ve had all season.”

Several Bears stood out.

“Jillian Dye passed very well today and kept us in system,” added Pike. “Anne Fildes had some great serving runs and Allison Metot played very well on the outside.”

Next, the Bears return home for the final time in 2011 as they host an exhibition match with Queen’s University on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. During the contest, Potsdam will honor seniors Strader, Metot, and Jessica Archinal.
