CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (24-8, 13-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam softball team (9-18, 2-8) by scores of 4-2 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Alexis Lerman (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) hit her second home run in as many days for the Bears.

Lerman opened the scoring in the first game with a solo shot to left field in the top of the second. However, the Red Dragons claimed the lead with two in the bottom of the second on an RBI double and triple. Freshman center fielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) got the Bears even with an RBI single to left that plated Lerman in the top of the fourth. Cortland left fielder Diane Cork had the decisive blow in the bottom of the inning as she launched a two-run shot over the left field fence. Pitching shut both teams down the rest of the way as the Red Dragons claimed the 4-2 win.

Bears Sophomore pitcher Sami Hubinsky (3-7) allowed four runs on 11 hits and a walk in six innings. Alexandrea Flint (11-2) earned the win after holding Potsdam to one earned run on five hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. Sam Van Dorn picked up her fourth save after allowing one hit in the final 1.1 innings.

Lerman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Game two was scoreless through two and a half before Cortland broke the game open with an eight-run bottom of the third. The Red Dragons made the most of five hits and three errors to clinch the contest. Junior shortstop Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), senior captain Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary) and Falsion accounted for the Bears three hits in the game.

Just one of Cortland's eight runs were earned. Sophomore pitcher Meghan Dougherty (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) (5-6) allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks in two innings. Freshman Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) closed out the contest's final two innings by giving up five unearned runs on five hits and a walk. Jamie Lachall improved to 8-5 after pitching the five-inning, three-hit shutout.

The Bears' weekend is only half over as they head to Buffalo State for two games tomorrow and Fredonia for two more on Monday.
