POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men’s soccer team has announced the appointment of Alex Parker as the Bears’ assistant coach for the 2011 season.
Prior to SUNY Potsdam, Parker led the Pittsford Mendon boys’ J.V. team to a 29-1-2 record over two seasons. During those years, he also assisted the varsity program during its back-to-back Section 5 titles and New York State final four appearances. Parker has also coached extensively with the Pittsford Mustangs Soccer Club at the U-15 and U-16 levels.
Along with coaching soccer, Parker worked at Village Sports in Fairport, N.Y., as the facility manager and youth program coordinator. He created and ran developmental sports programs for children ages 18 months to nine years, as well as managing staff, scheduling programs, and upkeep of the facility.
Coach Parker played his high school soccer at Pittsford Mendon and played four years at SUNY Fredonia. He played in two SUNYAC Championship games and was a key player on the 2005 squad that went to the NCAA Elite Eight. Parker also served as a team captain for the
2006 ECAC Champion Blue Devils.
Parker graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 2007, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management and exercise science. He is also a certified speed, agility, and quickness specialist. While at Potsdam, Alex will be pursing a master’s in sports management.
