GENEVA, N.Y.— No. 14/15 Hobart College (10-4) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (6-8) 3-0 on Friday evening. Aaron Maguyon scored twice for the Statesmen and Bears freshman goalie Michael Paglucca (North Reading, Mass./New Hampshire Avalanche) made 30 saves in his collegiate debut.

Potsdam edged the Statesmen 9-8 in shots in a scoreless opening period. Paglucca and Hobart goalie Alexander Connal were sharp and the defenses didn't allow many top chances. Potsdam killed the only power play of the first period.

The Statesmen finally broke through with a 5-on-3 power play at 2:04 of the middle period. Maguyon finally solved Paglucca for his first of the night. The play remained even until late in the period when Hobart struck again. Jonas Toupal scored an even-strength marker at 16:32. Hobart took the 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Statesmen added a third tally at 4:43 of the final 20 minutes. Maguyon tipped a shot from the left point underneath Paglucca for a 3-0 advantage. Hobart kept the pressure on and prevented the Bears' offense from getting Potsdam back into the game.

Connal finished with 27 stops for the shutout. The Bears were 0-for-1 on the power play and the Statesmen were 1-for-3.

Despite the loss, Potsdam is 22-15-1 in the all-time series with Hobart dating back to a 5-4 win in Geneva on Dec. 1, 1979.

The two teams go at it again tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
