POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (7-6) fought off a scrappy SUNY Canton squad (3-11) for a 73-70 victory at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium Tuesday night. Three Bears scored in double-digits including junior guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville), who led Potsdam with 19 points. Junior forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) recorded his second career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of Teaching) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds.

The teams battled through the opening four minutes with a couple lead changes before a free throw from Delsol-Lowry gave the Bears the lead over most of the first half. Potsdam got out to their largest lead, of 13, with four minutes to go. This ignited a 16-3 run for the Roos that started with two made foul shots from freshman guard Danny Santana (Clifton, N.Y./Clifton). He followed that up by knocking down two 3-pointers to add to their score. Canton ended their run with two made free throws from senior guard Deon Foster (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy) to take a three point lead. With three seconds remaining, Kane was fouled after a made layup and completed the three-point play to tie the game at 35 as the teams headed into halftime.

The Roos came out firing with six straight points before junior guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) laid in a layup and Delsol-Lowry complete his own three-point play to get Canton's lead down to one less than three minutes into the second half. The Roos kept control of the lead until Kane tied it at 46 with two points in the paint. See-saw play ensued over the remaining minutes of the game with each team going on mini scoring runs, but neither team holding the lead for long. With nine seconds to go, a Bear turnover turned into a layup to bring Potsdam's lead down to one. The Roos had to foul to put the pressure on the Bears and senior captain Kevin Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) answered by knocking down both shots to force a three from Canton, but the Roos were unable to hit and Potsdam took the 73-70 win.

Santana led the Roos with 21 points and five rebounds and senior captain Adrian Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Collegiate) was right behind him with 19 points, four assists, four boards and five steals. Freshman forward Joseph Werner (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) and junior guard Jordan Stewart (Brooklyn, N.Y./Metropolitan Diploma Plus) finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Werner also finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

Canton edged Potsdam shooting 40-percent from the floor to the Bears 38-percent, while the Bears outrebounded the Roos 45-41.

Potsdam hits the road to Oswego State Friday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup followed by a Saturday contest with SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m.
