POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-6-2, 2-6-2 NEWHL) battled to a 0-0 tie with Buffalo State (9-8-2, 5-4-1 NEWHL) on Saturday afternoon. Bears freshman goaltender Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 28 saves for her second career shutout.
Potsdam had two power plays in the first period, but the Bengals outshot the Bears 11-9. The dual between White and Buffalo State senior goalie Justine Silva (El Monte, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) stole the show, as it would all contest.
The teams exchanged fruitless power plays in the second period and matched each other shot for shot, finishing with seven apiece.
The Bears got a final fourth and final power play in the third, but couldn't change the score. Potsdam outshot Buffalo State 11-10 in the third and in overtime.
Silva earned her shutout with 27 stops.
The Bears continue the hunt for a NEWHL playoff spot on Friday when they travel to Cortland for a 2 p.m. contest. They then host the Red Dragons at Maxcy Ice Arena at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
