The Saints are headed to Lake Placid for a second straight year thanks to overtime heroics by junior defenseman Gavin Bayreuther and another huge night from sophomore goaltender Kyle Hayton.

Bayreuther scored 3:14 into the second overtime and Hayton made 50 saves as St. Lawrence completed a ECAC Hockey quarterfinal sweep of arch-rival ClarksonThe Saints celebrate Nolan Gluchowski's goal in Saturday's series clinching win with a 3-2 double overtime win at Appleton Arena Saturday night. The Saints ousted Clarkson in a home playoff series for the third time, but this time did not need an extra night to do it, although they did play almost an extra game with both going to overtime.

Bayreuther's game winner came after an offensive zone draw win by Brian Ward and the Saint defenseman scored his team-leading 11th of the year from the top of the left faceoff circle, sending the puck inside the far post with Drew Smolcynski screening. It was Bayreuther's third game-winner of the year and the fourth Saint overtime game winner since Jan. 30.

The 19-13-4 Saints, who won Friday's first game 3-2 in one overtime, advance to Lake Placid and the ECAC semifinals with an opponent to be determined by a Sunday night game three between Cornell and top-seed Quinnipiac. Clarkson finishes its season 20-15-3 after going overtime in all four of its tournament games.

"We were lucky we didn't lose the game in the third period," said Saint coach Greg Carvel. "And then we were really strong in overtime. I am really proud of my guys. Clarkson was desperate in the third period trying to keep their season alive and their third period was outstanding. We were on our heels and did everything we could just to get to overtime. I am really impressed how we were able to turn the game around. I thought the first overtime we were the better team and the second overtime it was just a matter of time before we were going to score."

SLU jumped out to a 2-0 lead as defenseman Nolan Gluchowski's shot from the point went in off a skate just 56 seconds into the game and freshman Jacob Pritchard scored his ninth of the year 6:47 into the second. The Saints were bidding to make it a 3-0 game later in the period, but Clarkson foiled a good scoring chance and turned it into a two-on-one heading the other way with senior Jeff DiNallo scoring his fifth of the year to make it 2-1 at 16:12.

Clarkson defenseman Kevin Tansey scored his fourth of the season on a shot from the center slot which caromed off defenders and into the net at 4:47 of the third, but despite outshooting the Saints 20-5, the Golden Knights could not get the lead as Hayton stopped 19 shots including three breakaway bids to keep the game tied.

"I thought both goaltenders were outstanding. Lewis really made a lot of big saves and kept a lot of the pucks bouncing around his crease out of the net for Clarkson. Kyle is very good on the breakaways for us…he is so quick…and at this level he is a very good goalie. We just love the energy that he plays with. He is a competitive guy and plays with spirit and fire and when you play Clarkson, they do a good job of getting to the net. As a little guy he did a good job of battling through it."

The Saints pushed back in the first overtime period, and this time it was Clarkson goalie Greg Lewis' turn to shine as he made 13 of his 40 saves in the first extra period.

The Saints outshot Clarkson 13-6 in the first overtime and scored on their second shot of the second extra period.

"I don't know many defensemen that are goal scorers, but Gavin Bayreuther is a goal scorer. You give him the puck and he scores them from way out. It is a skill to get the puck to the net and he has the quick hands and has that real desire to score."

Clarkson outshot the Saints 52-43 for the game and had four power play chances to just one for SLU, but the Saints were outstanding on the penalty kill and after surviving Clarkson's strong third period, dominated the overtimes.
