Port Charlotte, FL, -- Allison Auger led all players with five points but Carrie Long scored the game-winner with 1 minute, 3 seconds left in the second overtime to lift Fitchburg State to a 13-12 win over the women's lacrosse team on Thursday.
Four different players found the back of the net for the Roos (2-2) in the opening half, who were playing without leading scorer, MaryClare Bowes. Fitchburg led 5-4 at the half.
The Falcons scored the first three goals out of intermission to open up an 8-4 advantage. Canton responded with six of the next nine goals to get within 11-10 following Molly Denny's 12th goal of the season. Sarah Napolitano extended the Fitchburg State lead to 12-10 with 3:02 remaining.
Denny found Logan Bush for a goal with the Roos down a player and Carin Sherwood knotted the game at 12 with 1:24 remaining on her third goal of the game.
The Falcons had the lone shot on goal in the first overtime before Long tallied the game-winner.
Auger paced the Roos with three goals and two assists, while Denny added three goals and one assist. Sherwood finished with her first collegiate hat trick, while Bush also recorded a pair of scores. Amanda Woods led Canton with four caused turnovers, while Jessica Pele picked up a team-best four draw controls.
Nicole Piskorowski made 12 saves to go with four ground balls, while Marguerite Belcher turned aside 10 shots for Fitchburg.
