POTSDAM – A Potsdam man was jailed on $10,000 bail after he allegedly broke into the Potsdam dump and stole scrap metal.
Jeremiah D. Deshane, 30, of Potsdam, was charged at 12:45 p.m. with third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespass, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
After a lengthy investigation, the Potsdam Police Department charged Deshane on the above listed charges stemming from an incident that occurred on Aug. 8.
Troopers discovered that the dump on outer Elm Street owned by the Village of Potsdam had been broken into.
Troopers say Deshane drove a pickup truck through the gated entrance. Once inside, Deshane loaded the truck with scrap metal consisting of old fire hydrants and manhole covers. Deshane then took the scrap metal across the road to Sheehan’s and received money for the items, according to police. Deshane reportedly turned himself in at the Potsdam Police Department and was processed.
