PITCAIRN – A Pitcairn man was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault Saturday for allegedly physically abusing his domestic partner for weeks, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Howard M. Ober, 40, of 39 Garrison Rd., Harrisville, was also charged with two counts of menacing after deputies received a call from the domestic partner who said he had managed to flee.
Deputies said Ober had attacked the victim with a thick wooden stick, causing injury to the victim’s arm and legs. Deputies said the victim had been beaten on a regular basis for weeks, receiving injury to the eyes, face and other areas of his body.
The victim was placed in alternate housing by the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services.
Ober was arraigned in Fowler Town Court and released under the supervision of the county Probation Department at the recommendation of the District Attorney’s office, deputies said.
An order of protection was issued for the victim.
Deputies are reminding St. Lawrence residents that Renewal House maintains a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence or those who know about incidents of domestic violence at 379-9845. The sheriff’s office may also be called at 379-2222.
