To the Editor:
As a preface, I have lived a very long time and have been active in a number of presidential campaigns--all of which have at least been fought on fairly civil terms.
Not now. Donald Trump has pulled this campaign right down into the gutter with ignorance, arrogance, and especially with attacks on women for whom he has absolutely no respect, except, of course, as objects of his own erotic desires.
I think that not only should all women vote against him, but I would hope that all men would remember that a woman brought them into the world and that they have a wife or companion and perhaps daughters who are listening to his disgusting diatribe.
Do they really want their families to be subject to this from the would-be leader of the nation for the next several years?
My mother and grandmother fought for equal rights for women in the North Country and it resulted in the 19th Amendment granting them the right to vote. Will we turn our backs on all that with someone like Donald Trump? I certainly hope not.
With all the hate and discord that this one man has brought into our lives, I am reminded of Thomas Jefferson’s statement at a time of earlier crisis -- ”I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just.” So do I, Tom, so do I.
