School board candidate at Madrid-Waddington Central wants to positively impact school

To the Editor:

My name is Katie Logan and I am running for the vacant seat on the Madrid Waddington School Board. I live in the town of Madrid with my companion of eight years, Jason Curran, and my two children, Elizabeth and Caleb Froats.

I grew up just outside of Madrid, graduating from MWCS in 1998. For a short time after high school, I lived in Canton but when it was time for my daughter (Elizabeth) to begin kindergarten, it was important to both her father and me that she attend the same school that we did. We were comfortable at Madrid Waddington because we knew many of the teachers and administrators, but most of all, we knew that she would get a quality education in a safe environment. It was then that I moved back into the district and I have been here ever since.

I am a 2002 graduate of SUNY Canton with an AAS degree in Administrative Assistant. I served as the Cub Scout Leader for the Waddington Cub Scouts Pack 38 for the 2014-2015 school year and I am currently the treasurer of the Senior Parent Committee (formerly Project Graduation). I have been employed at SUNY Potsdam since 2008 and presently work in the College Advancement office as a secretary 1.

I have chosen to run for a seat on the school board for a couple of different reasons. The first reason is that our school is a large part of our community. I want to give back to the community in which I live. Madrid-Waddington is a wonderful school district.

My daughter will be graduating at the top of her class this June and has been accepted into four excellent nursing programs because of the quality education that she has received from Madrid Waddington. I hope for the same quality education and accomplishments from my son (Caleb) who is currently in sixth grade.

Secondly, I would like to set a good example for my children. I have always told them that you cannot expect change if you are not willing to put forth the effort to make a change. I want to volunteer my time to work with others in our district to positively impact our school.

I am proud to live in the Madrid Waddington School district and I want others to be as proud of it as I am.

I value and thank you for your vote on Tuesday, May 17. The board member vote will be held from 1 to 8pm in the Madrid Waddington High School Auditorium Lobby.
