Anyone who has visited Bayside Cemetery (and I hope that is most of you) has admired the many old maple trees that grace the landscape. Unfortunately, every autumn these ancient sentinels drop massive quantities of leaves, which we need to remove before winter.
Fortunately, Bayside has its fans, and they respond to our call for help clearing the grounds. This year was surely a record: over 325 volunteers spent at least two hours each raking and hauling leaves off our 40 acres. You people are amazing!
Three cheers for SUNY Potsdam’s 12 teams and sorority, totaling 250 people, lead by Lauren Bruce, who descended on the grounds on November 4.
Three cheers to Clarkson’s energetic crew of cross-country runners and skiers, lead by Jim Allott, who raked for hours on October 21.
Three cheers to Potsdam High School’s runners, led by April Barnes, who tackled the leaves on October 27.
And three cheers to Clarkson’s Physician’s Assistant degree program, led by Maritha Chaffee, for their enthusiastic help on Oct. 20.
