Opinion: Swimming doesn't get equal treatment as sport, Lisbon resident says

When my son transferred into Lisbon CS he was asked what sport he played. When he said swimming he was laughed at, told it was "gay" because swimming is not a boy’s sport.

This past weekend the combined Canton-Lisbon-Potsdam boys swim team won the Section X championship. Also CLP boys, including two Lisbon boys, won multiple individual Section Championships.

No one in the area would know this because the local papers don't seem to think boys swimming is a sport either. This week the sports pages have basketball, wrestling, hockey, floor hockey, horseshoes and bowling.

But a Sectional title and sectional individual champions don't seem to matter because it is only boys swimming.
