Opinion: Stefanik or Cobb, who is telling the truth, Canton resident asks

To the Editor:

Three years ago I drove to Old Forge to listen to the debate between Matt Funiciello, Elise Stefanik and Aaron Wolfe. I was impressed with Elise Stefanik's assertions that she represented a "new" generation of political representatives, willing to work across the aisle and listen to the people. In addition to promoting an efficient bi-partisan government and not engaging in negative campaigning.

A short time ago I read a front page article in the Watertown Times by Abraham Kenmore (Aug. 17) featuring a discussion with Lenny Alcivar, Elise's campaign spokesman. Alcivar outlined the exact opposite of Elise's promises in Old Forge! He trashed Tedra Cobb in every possible way with half truths, which is generous, as most, in my opinion, were completely false.

These were very similar to her television ads on Channel 7 News which go against Stefanik’s claim to be a "new generation of politician working positively across the aisle."

The only thing new about her claim of positive campaigning is the level of degradation she has stooped to remain in office. Some examples are "Taxing Tedra" and "Tedra does not make herself accessible to the public." The latter is really "the pot calling the kettle black" (see Post Star article Aug. 15 "Stefanik's TV ad full of "Fake News).

Tedra has tirelessly met with people in the district, with her honest and local rapport has pledged to continue to meet openly as our representative.

This is an important reason, along with her skill and competence as an elected official, that Tedra should be elected. Lenny Alcivar is attempting to cover up Elise's lack of interest in "the people" who live and work here, who she has been elected to represent.

Her interest appears to be in corporate donors who are desperate to keep her in office to support their agenda.

My feeling is, Elise and Lenny, as are Republicans in general, are very worried that Tedra's hard working , grass roots movement will awaken a sleeping giant of voters who want an honest, smart and genuine representative who is "one of us."

You decide who is telling the truth!
