Opinion: Snell wants to establish priorities on school board

To the Editor:

My name is Christina Snell and I am asking for your vote for school board member on May 15, 2018. My maiden name is Bonno and I grew up, have lived, and now raise my own family, in Hopkinton, New York. I graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School in 1992, and my brother and I represent the 3rd generation of our family to do so.

My ten-year-old daughter attends PHCS, and my husband of 12 years also graduated from PHCS. My family also includes two older step-children, one who currently attends, and one who has already graduated from, neighboring Potsdam Central School. My husband and our families have been taxpayers in the PHCS district for many, many years.

A licensed mental health counselor by profession, I have worked in the mental health/human services field for 20 years. Over the years I have worked for St. Lawrence County Community Services, Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley, and SUNY Canton Counseling Center.

Currently I am employed at SUNY Potsdam’s Counseling Center. I am passionate about helping people and am deeply committed to my family, community, and school system.

PHCS gave me a wonderful start in life. I would very much like to serve on the PHCS school board to help insure that all students, whether attending now, or in the future, continue to benefit from a strong academic program as well as a variety of enrichment opportunities.

In a climate of shrinking budgets, I believe that I could help to establish priorities and insure that the excellent reputation PHCS currently has will continue to be upheld in the future.

As a parent of a PHCS student and a longtime resident of the district, I believe I have the background necessary to assist in making sound decisions that will continue to move our district forward while providing our children with the proper tools to be successful in their future endeavors. I look forward to the opportunity of serving the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District and would appreciate your vote on May 15.
