Opinion: Let’s sell our biggest liability, says Massena resident

Massena Town Board member Sam Carbone apparently has ventured new criteria for selling off our town assets.

Following board member Tom Miller’s proposal of a $1 property lease to the Massena Humane Society, Carbone raised objections based upon the “liability” the town might face, noting “They're housing various animals there and it could increase your liability.”

I found Miller’s proposal to be a thoughtful one that took into consideration the historical and future value the Massena Humane Society has in our community.

I also thought it was a positive and productive one at a time when our town leadership has been reeling from the negative comments and opinions with regards to their interference and micromanagement of our community hospital.

As it appears to be the case with anything that comes to this town board, no action was taken on Mr. Miller’s excellent proposal, as Carbone calls for more “research.” Who, how, and to what cost for this was not defined.

If Carbone is truly fixated on the potential liabilities posed by “housing various animals” on town properties, maybe he should begin where this liability is at its greatest threat, selling off the Massena Town Hall!
