To the Editor:

Governor Cuomo's recent remarks disparaging America's heritage have thrown into stark relief the anti-Americanism that infects today's Democratic party. Historically, anti-Americanism has been confined to the extreme left wing of the party.

But the belittling of the United States by one of the nation's most powerful and visible Democratic leaders shows that anti-Americanism has now been accepted into the Democratic mainstream.

"America was never that great," according to the governor. What sort of country should replace this historically-defective America? We will find out if the Democrats win in 2020. One thing is certain: having never been that great, the traditions and freedoms that Americans so cherish will have no place in it.

It is no coincidence that both anti-Americanism and socialism are flourishing together in today's Democratic Party.

In 1956, communist leader Nikita Khrushchev proclaimed to the Western democracies, "History is on our side. We will bury you."

Where the communists failed, America's Democratic socialists plan to succeed.
