Meals On Wheels wishes to thank the community for its support throughout Meals on Wheels Week.

Thank you to Mayor Tim Currier for declaring Sept. 28 through Oct. 5 as Meals on Wheels Week. Banners, made by Curt Woods and Cappione's , were hung by Massena Electric on Main Street to get us started.

We kicked off the week with a wonderful Spaghetti dinner hosted by Vino Vini Vici. Many other businesses chipped in to make it a great success, including Renzi, BJ's, Walmart, Price Chopper, Kinney's, On a Roll Deli, Valley Paper, Elite Events by Lenny and Pepsi Bottling from Ogdensburg. Phi Sigma Sigma students from Clarkson and board members did a great job serving the meal.

Radiothon auction items were received all week with the help of Rotary and Meals On Wheels board members. Many businesses stepped up to the plate to contribute, once again.

A special "shout out" goes to Curran Renewable Energy, Peet's Jewelry, Pease and Gustafson, WMSA, and MX Fuels for the larger "all day" auction items.

Many thanks go to 2 Mama Birds, Advance Auto Parts, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, Alkie's Liquor, Amvets Post #4, Auto Zone, Baxter's One Stop Automotive, Blue Spruce Motel, Boutot Auto Sales, Breezy Maple Farm, Carl's Crafts, Cin-Breeze Massage, Coach's Corner, Community Bank, Downtown Florist, Dufrane Real Estate, Dunkin Donut, Econo Fuels, Forever Studio, Fourth Coast Cafe, Frenchie's Chevrolet, Drs. Sanjeev and Mukta Gupta, Hairitage House, Healthy Way, Highland Greens, Home Depot, House of Groom, IBEW Local 2032, Italian Affair, JAC Tower, Just Bee Cuz, Kaneb's Orchard, Knights Of Columbus, Laneuvilles Wine and Liquor, Louisville Mini Mart, Lulu's Smokehouse, Manley Insurance Agency, Marine Corps League, Massena Country Club, Massena Rod and Gun Club, Massena Savings and Loan, Monro Muffler, Morley's Bar and Grill, NBT Bank, North Raquette Greenery, Northrups Greenery, Pappy's Bar and Grill, Perras Environmental, Phillips Memorial Home, Phil Sheehan, Pizza Hut, Quality Inn, Putney Tree Service, Richards Insurance, Dr. Carl Scruggs, DDS, Sea Comm Bank, Sherwin Williams Paint, Singer Castle, Subway, Dr. Cynthia Swingle, Tarbell Management Group, Tractor Supply, Triple A Building, Twin Rivers Federal Credit Union, Vervilles Flowers, Via Main, Woodchop Shop, World Class Gym and Fitness, Wright's Tool and Sales, Dr. David Zysik, DDS, Dr.and Mrs Ed Zysik Jr, DDS.

A special thank you to Mark Bogdan, his wife Pam and his crew for organizing the radiothon and all the behind-the-scenes telephone operators. SLIC set up all the phones so we thank them as well as all the people that gave us great coverage -- WMSA, North Country Now, Bob Beckstead, Courier Observer and Mimi at Free Trader.

Meals On Wheels surpassed its goal of $20,000 thanks to so many people. The “Stock The Pot” was a huge success as vehicle after vehicle passed by and dropped in winning lottery tickets, Canadian money, change, bills, checks, and debit card transactions. Barb Martin and her team raised over $4,500! The team of the "Chicken" and Vi Podgurski won the friendly contest of "most raised" stocking the pot.

Thank you to all who called in and bid on the auction items. Also, a special thank you to Elijah Winfrey who spent the whole day with us broadcasting live from Massena Meals on Wheels..

Meals on Wheels provides a special service to a target population that needs our nutritious meals. Our volunteer drivers are the heart of the work as they deliver, day after day, a meal as well as a welfare check on our clients.

Without all of our volunteers we could not provide this service to our 100 clients each day. Meals on Wheels has two full-time and one part -time worker. We keep the costs down as much as we can but do need the communities support to provide the service.

The community certainly came through for us. Thank you.
