To the Editor:
There have been some very positive comments and opinions about the future of the Village of Potsdam. None have mentioned the "D" word - dissolution!
That's because they are really talking about a process, a different direction. "How about creating an attractive, vibrant, diverse and pedestrian-friendly community...led by creative, positive leaders (with) vision...all the resources are here".
But, the first step in fact is dissolution of the village.
And the rest of the process is the creation of a new Town of Potsdam -- a new Potsdam intrinsically tied to smart, managed development. Make Potsdam a real community. Think of the possibilities: an economic development focus, a streamlined government, extension of water beyond current village limits, one recreation department, reduced equipment expenditures, focused multi-year financial planning, focused planning for river/lake/tourism development, no more annexations, a leader in St. Lawrence County.
“Working together there can be a solution that will be of benefit now and secure a better future.” Let’s get on with it!
