Integrity, knowledge make Felt clear choice

To the Editor:

On Sept. 14, Republicans will have to make a decision about who is the best candidate for St. Lawrence County treasurer. Some will decide based strictly on politics. Others will decide based on qualifications. Some will even decide based on loyalty to party. I believe the only way to make a sound decision about which candidate will lead the treasurer’s office is through qualifications. In today’s economic times, we need a Treasurer who possesses the education necessary for the position, is committed to St. Lawrence County, has integrity, and has the experience.

Deputy County Treasurer Kevin Felt is the clear choice for St. Lawrence County Treasurer. Mr. Felt has earned his MBA from Clarkson University and earned his bachelor’s in business administration from SUNY Plattsburgh.

During the course of the two years that I have known Kevin, I have found him to be very committed to his job. Kevin is willing to go the extra mile to ensure his current responsibilities have been completed while running a campaign.

Kevin’s high degree of integrity shows in his day-to-day work at the county. I can speak to this because I work for the county in another department. The department I work for has to work very closely with the treasurer’s office. Kevin, as the deputy county treasurer, is required to communicate, work with, and guide departments to be sure each is following proper protocols for government accounting.

Kevin is very well-rounded. He understands financial processes of the departments of the county and is willing to listen to suggestions each department may have. This fosters efficiency and effectiveness between departments and the treasurer.

The treasurer cannot make decisions without careful thought. Decisions about how St. Lawrence County funds are to be invested require research. This takes time and patience. A wrong decision may result in less revenue, resulting in higher future tax levies.

Current St. Lawrence County Treasurer McNeil endorses Kevin because he believes Kevin is the best candidate to manage St. Lawrence County’s funds. Mr. McNeil’s endorsement does not come quickly or lightly. This position is not a political position. It is both a knowledge-based and an experience-based position. This is 100 percent hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves, do-what-it-takes-to-get-the-job-done position.

I have become part of Kevin’s campaign team because I believe in Kevin’s ability to manage the county’s funds. Kevin is clearly the most qualified.

On Sept. 14, you will have to make a decision as a Republican to select the person most qualified. Look for Kevin Felt on position 20B on the ballot. The decision is clear. The only candidate is Deputy County Treasurer Kevin Felt. I strongly urge you to vote for Kevin Felt.
