To the Editor:
Last fall, the man I planned to marry was killed in a drunk driving accident. The accident was the result of a bad decision he made after a night of drinking. His friends and family are still grieving because of our loss. Therefore, drinking and driving issues are very important to me.
With the election coming up very soon, I have carefully looked into the candidates competing to represent my town. I have found that the Republican candidate for Congress, Matt Doheny, has made the same bad decision of driving intoxicated more than once. He has been penalized for operating a moving vehicle while intoxicated. Drunk boating, like drunk driving, is extremely dangerous. According to the United States Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety, alcohol use is cited as the leading contributing cause of fatal boating accidents.
Matt Doheny should be ashamed by such reckless behavior. My concern is the clear lack of judgment his repeated actions demonstrate. Such irresponsible behavior puts not only his life in danger, but the lives of others in danger as well. The North Country needs leaders who are responsible, to protect and represent us; not ones who are careless and don’t see the laws as applicable to them.
