Child safety seat checkup event held in Ogdensburg

Posted

On November 17, the Ogdensburg Fire Department opened its doors to the North Country Child Passenger Safety Coalition for our child safety seat checkup event.

We’ve really appreciated their consistent support in helping children to ride more safely in vehicles. We also wish to extend our thanks to others who have helped at the checkpoints.

Thank you to the managers at the Ogdensburg Pizza Hut and Tim Horton’s who made generous donations of pizzas, coffee and donuts for the volunteers who staffed our checkups. Our Ogdensburg Firemen had been wonderful in helping keep the children occupied while their parents are learned to install the safety seats securely.

The North Country Child Safety Coalition is composed of child passenger safety technicians who have been certified by National Safe Kids. Our goal is to teach caregivers how to choose, use, and install the safest restraints for their children. In our most recent figures, most of the car seats that come into our checkpoints are not installed correctly, or there are no car seats at all.

Funding for our car seat programs is provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

More information about this program can be found at www.safeny.com, or by calling the St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Program at 315-386-2207.
