Canton police failed to ticket dangerous mother

To the Editor:

In Canton recently I personally witnessed two women with two children get in their vehicle.

The passenger had an infant in her arms as she entered the passenger side front seat of the vehicle and the driver just drove off.

They proceeded to drive from the University Plaza Shopping Center to the Price Chopper Shopping Center across the street.

I was stunned that they would endanger the infant’s life like that so I called 911 to report this act.

I was asked to wait for the Canton Police Dept. where the ladies were.

Twenty minutes went by and still no police.

The ladies got back in their vehicle and drove off so I followed them.

I then saw two police officers heading in the direction of the Price Chopper so I stopped them and asked if they were heading to the Price Chopper and they said yes.

So I told them that the lady was directly ahead of me.

I continued to follow the lady until the police pulled her over. The officer asked for my license and took down my information and said that was all he needed from me. I drove away.

I stopped by the police station to give my statement as directed by the 911 Operator and they said that the woman was not ticketed because she claimed it never happened.

The officer then said to me in a rude tone “Do you always report things like this?”

I was floored. What happened to Protect and Serve? Who is protecting this infant?

Not the mother. Not the Canton Police Dept.

I hope that you can make the public aware they should be watching out for things like this and hopefully the Canton Police Dept. will read this and remember why they are police officers to begin with. To Protect and Serve. Including Infant children.
