CANTON -- The New York State Career Development Association (NYSCDA) chose SUNY Canton's director of career services as the recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Career Practitioner Award.

David F. Norenberg received the award at the NYSCDA conference May 30 in Buffalo.

The annual honor recognizes professionals, such as counselors, consultants and teachers, for outstanding work in the career services field, according to a statement from SUNY Canton.

Norenberg has served as career services director since 2005. His duties include advising students in career and educational paths, and conducting workshops and career fairs to simplify the job search process and assist students in achieving their career goals.

During his tenure, he developed a website that offers online resume assistance programs, links for career exploration and videos that highlight different occupations. He also works with active duty service members at Ft. Drum transitioning into the civilian workforce.

"Being selected to receive this award is such an honor," Norenberg said in the release. "I have worked hard to find new and creative ways to help and inspire the students at SUNY Canton … In many ways it is because of them that I received this award."
