St. Lawrence University’s Writers Series to present author Okey Ndibe Thursday in Canton

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s Writers Series will continue its 2017-18 season with author Okey Ndibe at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Sykes Common Room. The event is free and open to the public.

Ndibe is the author of the novels “Foreign Gods, Inc.” and “Arrows of Rain” as well as a memoir, “Never Look an American in the Eye: Flying Turtles, Colonial Ghosts, and the Making of a Nigerian-American.”

He earned MFA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has taught at Brown University, Trinity College, Simon’s Rock College, and the University of Lagos (as a Fulbright scholar). He was the 2015 Shearing Fellow of the Black Mountain Institute at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he began work on a novel titled Native Tongues.

His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, BBC online, The Guardian (UK), Financial Times, and D La Repubblica (Italy).

He is currently the 2017-18 Viebranz Professor of Creative Writing at St. Lawrence University.
