NORWOOD -- The recently chartered Raquette River Lions Club has welcomed its first new member of 2019, Bobbi Phillips of Norwood. Officiating at the induction ceremony held at the January meeting were Lion and Past District Governor, Royal Sheldon, and Lions Membership Sponsor, President Gordy Theisen.

Maggie McKenna, Executive Director of the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce, was the guest speaker at the meeting.

Two clubs, Potsdam Lions and Norfolk Lions, have merged to form the new club. Members are looking forward to expanded membership and service opportunities. Local Lions are part of the worldwide service organization that focuses on sight preservation, diabetes and youth projects.

“If you would like to help improve our community and help those in need, please join us,” Lions Secretary Michelle Theisen said in a news release. “We look forward to meeting you, and working with you.”

The Lions meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the Lobster House Restaurant in Norwood. For more information or to attend the Feb. 5 meeting, please contact Theisen at 315-742-2172 or write to Raquette River Lions at PO Box 723, Potsdam, NY 13676.
