Ogdensburg, Potsdam and Massena students recently won medals at the St. Lawrence University Pi Mu Epsilon Interscholastic Mathematics Contest for local high school students.

A total of 72 students from 15 area high schools participated in the 72nd annual contest.

Matt Ramm, a senior from Ogdensburg Free Academy, took home the gold medal, just as he did in last year’s competition.

Ramm has been accepted into the class of 2020 at St. Lawrence in the fall.

The silver medal winner was Gaetan Foisy, a senior at Potsdam high school.

The bronze medal went to Ethan Marcello, a senior from Massena Central High School.

Ogdensburg Free Academy was the overall team winner in this year’s competition, which included Ramm and team members Margaret Peo, Jo Zhou, Hayley Snodgrass and Justyn McCormick.

St. Lawrence’s math, computer science and statistics department sponsored the event April 6 in conjunction with the Pi Mu Epsilon honor society.

Winners who later decide to attend St. Lawrence are eligible to receive the Robert G. Cromie scholarship.

The scholarship, named after a former math faculty member, is awarded to the top senior, while other scholarships are available for the top three non-seniors.
