OGDENSBURG -- Three graduating high school seniors received Helen S. Randles scholarships from the United Helpers Management Company on June 12.

The scholarships, each worth $750, went to Ogdensburg Free Academy students Jessica Logan and Charlotte Miller and Heuvelton Central School student Derek Fenton, all of whom plan on attending college in the fall and pursuing a career in the medical field. The scholarship was open to graduating seniors who are pursuing higher education in medicine.

Logan, who took A.P. biology in high school and works at RiverLedge Campus, plans on majoring in nursing at Nazareth College and eventually becoming a family nurse practitioner.

Miller, who volunteers at RiverLedge Residence, said she is attending SUNY Plattsburgh in the fall to major in speech pathology. She plans on pursing a master’s degree in that field.

Fenton, who works at the Heuvelton-Flackville Road Intermediate Care Facility, plans on studying nursing for four years at SUNY Canton and possibly pursuing a career as a physician’s assistant afterward.

The scholarships were set up through an endowment left to United Helpers by Helen S. Randles. Randles served United Helpers in various capacities for 45 years and through her gift to the organization continues to help United Helpers achieve its mission of supporting vulnerable people in the North Country.
